Christmas dinner in the UK is traditionally an event where the entire family gather round the dinner table to enjoy a roast turkey, pigs in blankets and all the seasonal vegetables (of course, including the Brussel sprout!). Followed by a Christmas pudding, coated in alcohol and set a light, or maybe a mince pie or slice of Christmas cake. Often, this is followed by adults sleeping, drinking too much, watching a Christmas movie or a family board game (or all of these things most likely!).
Although this is considered the Christmas tradition, it does not have to be the only way to celebrate Christmas. There are many reasons that you may not want Christmas day to be this way, or it may be that is simply not an option. Traditional is not right for everyone, and people wanting to break from tradition have some great ideas for making your very own special day.
If you work Christmas Day then you obviously won’t be able to spend Christmas at home, but that shouldn’t mean you miss out. Many people who work Christmas day celebrate their own Christmas a day or two after (or any day that suits their schedule). There is a huge benefit to this and even if you don’t work Christmas day, you can make your own Christmas any day you like! The best thing about this is that you can get all the gifts in the January sales for half the price you would have paid before Christmas!
If you don’t eat meat – In recent years, the number of people becoming vegetarian and vegan has risen. Because of this the good news is that there are a huge variety of options like never before and you can find some amazingly tasty recipes like these that will be the perfect Christmas feast for a non-meat eater. If you aren’t much of a cook or don’t have the time to spend in the kitchen, most of the supermarkets have a great range of ready to cook vegetarian and vegan dishes fit for a king!
If you will be alone on Christmas day, either by choice or not, have a relaxed and chilled out Christmas day. Meet up with a friend or group of friends in the same position if you want some company. If you want to get away, spend Christmas in a country house hotel or spa, have a decadent Christmas dinner with all the finer things such as gorgeous restaurant cutlery from www.heritagesilverware.com/category/cutlery and have a truly pampered Christmas. Or reach out to those less fortunate on Christmas day and volunteer at a local homeless shelter, you will be able to spend time in other people’s company whilst making a difference to people’s lives – the true spirit of Christmas.
