Fitting double glazing is more difficult than you think, so we advise getting an experienced fitter to install your new windows for you. Whilst some of you are keen DIYers and are probably more than capable of fitting new windows, getting a reputable fitter to do it for you will ensure that they are liable for any costs if anything does go wrong.

So the next question has to be about how you find someone reputable to fit your windows. Well, here’s how.

The Installer

Whilst there are lots of really good double glazing firms around, both big and small, the one thing you need to make sure of is whether or not they are either CERTASS or FENSA certified. If the firm you’re looking at doesn’t have one of these certifications, our advice is to steer well clear, as you could find yourself with below-standard windows.

Whilst many of you will opt for one of the bigger glazing companies, you will in all probability pay more for the windows themselves and for installing them.

Independents

Don’t be afraid to use local smaller window companies like Keane Windows. These types of companies are capable of doing a high-quality job for you at a much lower cost than some of the big firms. However, when looking for a window supplier in Dublin, our advice is to look at customer reviews on social media and see what experiences others in the area have had with that firm.

We also recommend ensuring the company has been in business for at least ten years, as this gives an idea of their experience and customer service. However, there are some very good ‘young’ firms that shouldn’t be ignored, but do your homework and research the company before you commit. Asking friends and family for recommendations is a great idea, as they will be honest with you and tell you if they’ve experienced good or bad service.

When you have decided on a company, ask them if you can see some of their installations so you can see the quality of their workmanship, and ask for references from previous clients. The company should be accommodating and provide you with whatever you ask for; if they don’t, walk away from them, as they obviously have something to hide.
