In the centre of town, there are parks, most obviously Welland Park, with its large playground, skate park and cafe, but the attractions are wider ranging if we look a bit deeper.
The museum is located in the community hub in the Symington Building, which also houses district and county council services, the library, a cafe and an ice cream parlour. It is free to enter and child-friendly. The displays include one of the most important Iron Age discoveries in Britain, the Hallaton treasure, found in 2000, as detailed by the University of Leicester. There are regular events such as story and rhyme times and they have a play area for young children, which includes toys, dressing up clothes and an activity cart for crafts. Definitely enough fun to while away an afternoon!
Harborough Leisure Centre
This leisure centre is a great choice for all ages. The 25m, 6 lane pool has several different sessions and there’s also a shallow beach area. The teaching pool has a depth of 0.8m and is where swimming lessons take place. The tiger pool is great for the whole family as it has an octopus slide, interactive water features, waterfalls, dams and a bucket that tips. Go along for some splashy fun!
Mini Mischiefs is the indoor play area, as detailed on https://www.marketharborough.com/. Perfect for children aged 10 and under, this large multi-level soft play area reaches 5.5m high. It also has a built-in but separate baby area and toddler area, which has height and age appropriate toys to allow these children to explore safely. With a cafe on site offering hot and cold drinks and tasty food, there is something for everyone.
Foxton Canal Museum
Situated just 5km out of town, Foxton Canal and Museum are definitely worth visiting. The museum is housed in the boiler house of the Victorian boat lift at Foxton Locks, which is the largest series of staircase locks on any English canal. The museum has great displays and models showing how the locks were built and how they work. With a play boat and lots of interactive displays, there is plenty for the kids to get hands on with.
